Chris Payne/Jordan Price-Davies Runners-up in Daily Mail Finals
Jordan Price-Davies and Chris Payne
Tuesday October 21
Chris Payne and Jordan Price-Davies, playing off a combined handicap of 5, finished up second in the Finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes on the Dalmahoy links, scoring 32 points on the rain-sodden course, but losing out to the Great Torrington duo who scored 35 playing off 17.
On the first day of theFinals on Monday, torrential overnight rain forced competition organisersd to adopt a Stableford format for the first time in its 48 years old history. As play was delayed for four hours, the usual knockout round of 16 and the quarter finals were sacrificed for one round of foursomes Stableford to decide the four semi-finalists.Playing in horrendous weather conditions, Chris andJordan were headed only by the Harewood Downs GC, Bucks pairing.
Finishing up second in this prestigious tournament is a fantastic achievement of which Chris and Jordan can be justifiably very proud. Many congratulations!
2008 marks the 48th anniversary of the Daily Mail Foursomes; a tournament that is now regarded as the greatest amateur golfing event in the world with more than 190,000 players competing in their club qualifying rounds. Many pairs try for years to reach the Daily Mail Foursomes' finals week. Entry is open to members of golf clubs in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland, with each club invited to enter one men's pair and one women's pair in the championships.
